Setting the Default Java Version on Mac OS X for Red5

Background

When you are ready to run Red5, you should configure your system to use Java 6 as the default JRE.

In current versions of Mac OS X you can configure which version of Java will be the default Java Runtime Environment for your machine. Programs asking for the default version of Java will be given the version you specify in the Java Preferences Utility.

Prerequisites

  1. A 64-bit mac running Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or higher. The MacBook and the original Intel-based iMac are NOT 64 bit. MacBook Pros and Mac Pros are fine.
  2. An up-to-date system with Java 6 installed.

Configuration

  1. Launch /Applications/Utilities/Java/Java Preferences
  2. Reorder your Java application versions so that Java 6 is the first one in the list. It should look like this:
